The Perfect Lipstick Color For You

Sitting in front of your dresser mirror applying your makeup, have you ever redone your lipstick because you hated the lipstick color that you got?

Many women find choosing the lipstick color that is just right for their lips and skin tone a little confusing. It does not help that there are probably thousands of shades of lipstick colors out there, which makes the process of choosing the perfect lipstick color for your lips a little more complicated than it should be.

However, if you knew how to look, you would be surprised at how easy finding this perfect lipstick color is.

The Trick to Finding the Perfect Lipstick Color

The trick to finding the perfect lipstick color for your lips is simply this: get a lipstick color that is a shade or two darker than the natural color of your lips. It is as simple as that.

Now, of course you would want to figure out just what kind of lipstick color would complement the tone of your skin. As a rule of thumb, if you have fair skin, you should go with soft pinks and corals to match the pinkish tone of your skin. Apricot would be a nice lipstick color too if you are fair-skinned.

If your skin has olive tones, the lipstick color that would suit you would be something that has tones of rose or mauve. If you have dark skin, you should pick lipstick colors with deep reds, deep browns or chocolate.

The Right Way of Buying a Lipstick

Now that you know what lipstick color you should go for, how do you determine if the lipstick you are thinking of buying is the perfect color? The answer to that is that you should try the lipstick on.

However, never ever apply the sample lipstick directly to your lips. That is very yucky. You would never know how long that lipstick has been exposed to dust and dirt and putting it directly to your lips may cause you to take in germs into your system. Instead of putting the lipstick directly to your lips, just swipe it against your finger or your palm.

There are some stores where it would not be possible for you to take a swipe of the sample lipstick on your skin because the sample lipstick is not available.

In that case, what you need to do is to just hold the product against your face and take a look at yourself at the mirror. That will help you determine if the lipstick color is just right for the tone of your skin.

Do Not Stick to Just Lipstick

When you shop for makeup, do not limit yourself to just the lipstick. Get yourself a few lip liners as well. Lip liners are very helpful because they trace the natural line of your lips and prevent the lipstick from bleeding away from your lips.

Take care to buy lip liners that are a shade lighter than the lipstick colors you will blend them with. You can also go for a nude lip liner if you think figuring out what color of lip liner would match your lipstick color is just too much work for you.

Another tool that could come handy when you are applying makeup is a lipstick brush. A lipstick brush is good if you are the type who wants to put on just a thin layer of lipstick instead of slathering it across your lips.

A lipstick brush is also more hygienic than dabbing your fingers on the lipstick and then rubbing it on your lips. In using a lipstick brush, you minimize the need for kissing tissue to get rid of excess lipstick on your lips, as well as to prevent it from getting to your teeth.

Got the Wrong Lipstick Color?

Sometimes, even though you are sure that the color of the lipstick that you got from the store is the right one for your skin tone, there are times that when you actually get to use it, you would find that it is not really the right shade for you, or you simply do not like the way it looks against your skin.

Do not despair, though. You can still make use of that lipstick. You do not have to waste money by throwing it away.

What you do in this situation is to get your lipstick brush and blend this unwanted lipstick color with your other lipsticks. In this way, you would be able to create a shade of color that would be more to your liking. You get a new shade of lipstick without buying a new one or throwing one away.

Article by John Gibb

Lipsticks which are richer in color and texture than lip gloss are a cosmetic Product that is applied in Lips. It is used primarily to apply color to Lips. Most of the Lipsticks are red or reddish in color. This is because it stimulates sexual arousal appearance. It also reddens the Lips and increases the blood flow. Lipstick is available in a massive and varied selection of colors and shades with modern pigments. Many chemical ingredients are present in a typical Lipstick. Lipstick contains Pigments, Oils, Waxes and Emollients. In order to cover the odors and tastes of the other ingredients, perfume and flavoring may be added. While reviewing the history of Lipstick it’s found that Lipstick does not have a known origin.

It is known to have been used around 5000 years ago in ancient Babylon. In those days semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the Lips and occasionally around the Eyes. Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% Iodine, and some Bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness.

Lipstick 101 – Different Kinds of Lipsticks

Of all the cosmetic products, I think lipstick is the only makeup that women can’t live without. Even without eye shadows and blush, a lipstick alone can put a beautiful glow in our face. We can change our look instantly with just a change in the color of our lipstick. We can look natural or dramatic just by changing colors. But putting only eye shadows and blush without lipstick, our makeup would obviously look undone.

What are the different kinds of lipsticks? A lipstick comes in several forms:

1. Cream lipstick has a semi-opaque to opaque, satiny texture, with minimal shine.

2. Matte lipstick does not make the lips look shiny. It has deep, opaque colors and has a natural look. It can also make the lips look thinner.

3. Sheer lipstick is also called satin lipstick. It has a hint of color with maximum shine, so your lips look naturally wet and shiny. It is pale, almost transparent, somewhere between gloss and lipstick. It is not long-lasting and offers little coverage.

4. Shimmer lipstick has an opalescent finish and is a good choice for evening. It looks great under artificial light. It can make your lips appear fuller.

5. Lip stain provides a natural look. It is long-lasting and comes mostly in a matte finish. It is perfect when you are in a hurry and you just have a few minutes to do your makeup. This is for low maintenance girls like me who want to look good without spending too much time in doing makeup.

6. Lip pencil is a crayon-like pencil to shape, line, and fill in the lips. It should match and blend with your lipstick color. It keeps lipstick within the outlines of your lips and prevents lip color from bleeding. It also defines the outlines of your mouth and helps make the color last. Using a lip pencil makes it easy to correct the shape of unbalanced lips than using lipstick only. I have thin lips so I use lip pencil to outline my lips just a little outside my natural lipline to make it appear fuller.

7. Lip gloss gives lips a mild luster and sometimes subtle color. It is a shiny balm that can be clear or translucent in color.

How do you choose a lipstick color? The most flattering shades resemble the color of your natural lips, like nudes, roses, berries, and soft browns. Lipstick is something you must try on, and I mean on your lips! Some colors look different on the lips than they do in the tube. Plus, your unique lip tone will affect color as well. That’s why one lipstick shade won’t look the same on two women. Test the color in natural light. Store lighting are usually designed to make everything look beautiful.

Your lipstick color should complement your outfit. Natural colors are more suitable for casual occasions. For formal events, deeper colors like dark reds would make you look more dazzling. For office wear, I suggest you avoid bright colors. These can be distracting. Neutrals in the family of pinks and berries are a good choice. Red may be powerful but it can also make you seem unapproachable. Neutral colors in the family of brown can sometimes make you look dreary and tired. That’s the last thing you want in the workplace. Since you’ll be in the office all day, it’s important that your lipstick moisturizes your lips and its color won’t fade away. After all, we won’t always have time for touchups!

I’m also the kind of person who likes reapplying my lipstick without a mirror. Sheer, shimmer or glossy lipsticks are more foolproof for me than mattes or creams, which can make mistakes look more obvious.

It is also good to choose lipsticks that contain SPF. The skin on our lips is thinner and can burn easily, so it’s important that we protect our lips from sun damage.
